BWF Level 2 Badminton Coaches Training Programme concludes


With the higher intention of producing quality and well qualified coaches in Sri Lanka, the Coaching and Development Committee of Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) successfully conducted a Badminton World Federation (BWF) Level 2 course recently. The core intention of this training programme was to impart comprehensive training procedures and modules to local badminton coaches, who will be responsible in nurturing the future talents of Sri Lanka in time to come.

The BWF Level 2 training programme, conducted by the SLB Vice President and the head of Coaching and Development Committee, Buddhika de Silva, had 20 top notch senior badminton coaches from the island, who had been involved with badminton for a long time. Through the training programme SLB intends to adhere quality and up-to-date training methods, which in turn would help enhance the quality of the local competitions conducted by SLB, in addition to producing shuttlers who will be on par with global standards.

The programme included 14 male and six female coaches, who were presented with BWF Level 2 Certificates after the completion of the course. Among the six female coaches who took part in the coach’s training programme were – Himali Kanchana de Silva, Chamika Priyadarshani Jayamanna, Renu Chandrika de Silva, Nadeesha Gayathri, Ruvini Chathurika Rathnasiri and Malka Ann Priyangi Fernando. The male coaches were Danushka Nilanga Fernando, Dushan Anuruddhika, Dhammika Wanigasekara, Mahesh Ekanayake, Ajith Upendra Perera, Duminda Niroshan de Silva, Subash Janaka de Silva, Prabhoda Bimal Kotalawala, T. Kamalan, Sandun Tharaka Fernando, Hasitha Chanaka, Mohamed Shifad, Rajitha Sandeepana Dahanayake and Danushka Kannangara, who completed the batch of
20 coaches.

Southern Province Badminton from January 28

 

The Southern Province Badminton Association, in collaboration with Sri Lanka Badminton has called applications for the Southern Province Open All Island Badminton Championship.

Scheduled to take place from January 28 to February 3, the championship promises a week filled with intense action at the District Badminton Sports Complex in Galle Dadella and Ambalangoda.

Enthusiasts can submit their applications before January 15 to participate in a range of competitions spanning open, senior, and junior age groups. Junior competitions, catering to under 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19 years for both boys and girls, including singles and doubles events. The Open category features a variety of events, such as Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles across different age groups.

In an exciting addition, this year’s championship introduces women’s and men’s singles events for the first category among the losers of the open semi-finals.

With a cash prize pool of Rs.750,000, the championship aims to reward outstanding performers. Winners will not only receive cash prizes but will also be presented with certificates and medals.

The event is made possible through the sponsorship of Mcfoil, Mobil, GAC, Li Ning, and 3M, showcasing the support and commitment of these organizations to the development and promotion of badminton in the region.

 Entries for Uva Province Open badminton


Excitement is building as applications are now officially open for the highly anticipated Uva Provincial Open Badminton Championship, hosted by the Uva Province Badminton Association under the supervision of Sri Lanka Badminton.

According to organisers the matches are scheduled to take place from January 12 to 18 at St. Thomas’ College Indoor Badminton Stadium, Bandarawela and the Badulla Shuttlers Badminton and Table Tennis Academy. As a key event recognised for Sri Lanka Badminton rankings, the Uva Province Open Badminton Championship welcomes participants across various categories for Open, Senior and Junior age groups.

Juniors can compete under age groups of under-11,13, 15, 17 and 19 boys and girls Singles and Doubles events.

The senior category accommodates men’s and women’s Singles and Doubles along with Mixed Doubles for various categories including Over 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, and 70.
